Matthey Plc announces that Mr Gordon Thorburn will
retire as a director of the company on ill health grounds
at the conclusion of this year's Annual General Meeting
on Wednesday 21st July 1999, a year ahead of his normal
retirement date.
Mr Thorburn joined
the Board of Johnson Matthey in 1983 as Group Finance
Director. He became Executive Director, Administration
in 1987.
Michael Miles, Chairman
of Johnson Matthey said: "Gordon has had a distinguished
career with Johnson Matthey and I thank him for all
his hard work and wise counsel. The Board are very
sorry to lose his services earlier than we would
have hoped and we wish him a long, happy and healthy
retirement".
