Mike Cleare Appointed Managing Director Electronic Materials Division

Dr Mike Cleare has been appointed Managing Director of Johnson Matthey's Electronic Materials Division (EMD) with effect from 13th January 1997. Currently Managing Director of the Company's Catalytic Systems Division (CSD), Dr Cleare will take over responsibility at Board level for EMD reporting to Chris Clark, the Group's Chief Operating Officer.

Mike Cleare assumes operational responsibility for EMD from Geoff Wild who will be leaving the company at the end of February 1997. Dr Cleare has held a number of key positions during his 30 year career with Johnson Matthey. He was appointed to the Board in September 1995 and has since led the recovery in CSD. Dr Cleare will continue to be responsible for the Company's growing Biomedical Products business.

"JM's factory at Chippewa Falls in Wisconsin, is gearing up for full production of the product and has just received final product certification from its major customer. The project is on track to become a significant profit generator for the Group next year."

Neil Carson, currently Managing Director, CSD Europe, will take over the responsibility for CSD as Divisional Director, and will report to Chris Clark.
